I’ve been a Freeway Pro user since 2009. Started with absolutely no knowledge of HTML, CSS etc but thought even at 60 it’s never too late to start!

After dismissing all the usual software as too complex I made my fist attempt with iWeb but it had many limitations.

Through a Google search I found Freeway Pro and they even offered a “senior” discount!

It took me a while but slowly and surely I got to grips with it. The real turning point was learning how to use the box layout method. (Thanks to Dan Jasker who we all miss).

I got so hooked I kept looking for others who needed a website so I could develop further. In the end I decided to set up a small business and have now published over 100 sites!

Freeway Talk has of course been a fantastic support to us all and my thanks go to all is regular contributors.

Even Freeway has a few limitations but there are a few great third party add ons that you must look at:

  1. WebYep CMS (11 out of 10. You can’t live without it)

  2. Siteloc (With excellent Freeway support this is great if you need a secure or members only area)

  3. Ecwid (Online shop software. Takes about 5 mins to install and can be customised quite easily)

My top tips for newer users:

  1. Learn to define styles before you insert any text. Freeway creates these for you if you don’t and you end up with hundreds! If a client changes their mind about a font etc it’s very easy to change if you plan ahead and pre-define everything.

  2. A bit like the above but with colours. If you define names for say menu text and menu text roll-over, menu background and menu background rollover and use them only for this purpose, then changing a colour later is so simple.

  3. Get your head around master pages, they work much better now. This too can save you hours of work making changes.

I love Freeway and it’s honestly changed my working life. I’ve made some great client friends, and even a bit of money.

I’m still far from knowing it all. What is that “extended” button for?

Finally a big thank you to Walter. This new ActionForge site is just amazing!!
